2020 Events Schedule

Throughout the year classes, lectures, workshops, and garden tours are offered. All events are by reservation. You may register on the website, call us at 989-666-7012, or by check. For information email us, beulah@grandoakherbfarm.com. We are open Friday and Saturday only.

 

April 25th 11AM Little Red Farm Truck and Spring Brunch

The turn of the century the red truck, is a very popular decoration for the Holidays. The back of the truck is often loaded with a small conifer tree .

This year we will furnish you with the truck and 4 seasons of decorations. For Spring and Summer you will have 3 small terra-cotta pots that you will plant with 3 different succulents of your choice. To change it over for Fall, mini pumpkins and mini pine cones. Then for Winter, an adorable conifer tree and mini packages.

Refreshments provided.

May 7th Opening For The 2020 Season

The Sale Barn will also be opening today with 50% or more off. Th Sale will focus on garden items. Sale price marked on all items.

 

May 9th 1:00 PM Mothers Day Afternoon Tea

A special lady deserves a special High Tea. Mom will love the menu we have planned for her celebration. The menu: Spring strawberry and spinach salad, delicious strawberry soup, asparagus and mozzarella stuffed chicken breast, green beans with red potatoes and Canadian bacon, broccoli and cauliflower casserole, pecan pie cheesecake, our own blended tea, and herbal fruit water.

We will have a complimentary photo booth set up for you to take pictures to remember the day with Mom and the other special person in her life.

May 23rd 11AM Start Your Herbal and Essential Oil Medicine Cabinet

Have you ever felt confused trying to figure out which herb to use for health remedies. It is hard to navigate the deluge of herbal information out there and to find a source you can trust. For over 50 years I have tried many mixes and blends and used them to determine what works for me. I would like to share some of these remedies with you. You will learn benefits and remedies for more than a dozen plants.

Also, you will be starting a container garden of 6 herb plants. We will demonstrate making tinctures, oils, salves, infusions and will discuss growing your plants. Plants, planter and soil provided. Refreshments and savories served.

May 30th Noon Growing and Using Scented Geraniums, ' Pelargoniums'

Scented Geraniums are not in the family of garden geraniums. They are edible. There are now more than 200 different scents. During the class learn their health benefits, culinary uses and the pleasure of growing them . As a bonus gift to you, we have been able to obtain copies of Marge Clark's book,

' The Best of Thymes' for all attending. The book is a collectors book. Two of my own recipes using scented geraniums are credited to me. You will be sampling recipes using scented geraniums. Plants will be available in the greenhouse for sale. We have only 15 books at this time but hope to get more. If I can obtain more books we will raise the limit.

June 6th 1:30 PM Spring Wreath

A lush gathering of beautiful permanent botanicals makes this a beautiful welcome to Spring. The permanent botanical blossoms that we will be using includes, pink and white hydrangea, lavender, pink blush antique roses, snowball viburnum, as well as a mixture of greens and vines. Nestled in the wreath will be a sweet bird nest and eggs. The wreath will create a beautiful focal point wherever you hang it, indoors or outdoors. Refreshments provided

June 13th 1:00 PM A Downton Abbey Spring Tea

Be a part of English royalty for an afternoon. Enjoy a Spring Tea as the Grantham family would. The Afternoon Tea will include a teacup of soup, smoked salmon tea sandwich, English cucumber tea sandwich, cranberry chicken sandwich, currant scones, fresh made lemon verbena jelly, chocolate biscuit cake, Victoria sponge cake, raspberry tea and herbal fruit water. Our guests are invited to dress in their favorite Downton Abbey dress or costume. A prize will be awarded to the best two costumes chosen by our guests.

For your entertainment, we will feature a complimentary photo booth with Downton Abbey in the background . You will be able to take as many pictures as you like to keep for memory of the day.

June 27th 1PM Take your Father to High Tea

We are happy to offer a special High Tea for that very special person in our life, our Fathers.

The menu for this special event: biscuits with lemon thyme butter, broccoli cheddar soup, spinach salad with warm bacon dressing, triple dipped buttermilk chicken, green beans with red potatoes and bacon asparagus with garlic and lemon thyme butter, Mississippi mud cheesecake, spicy tea and herbal fruit water.

A rosemary plant, ' Herb plant of Love and Remembrance' will be given to each Father. Friends and family members are invited to register and attend as well.

July 10th 11:00 AM Growing and Using Lavender

This seminar will cover essential oils and their health benefits, growing, propagation and hardiness and includes a luncheon. We will demonstrate making herbal salves. The demonstration will be making lavender, comfrey and plantain healing salve and each participant will be able to take home a sample.

July 11th 11:00 AM Daylily Day

You are invited to come to the Farm today while the daylilies are in bloom. I am taking up a patch of select daylilies and invite you to select 2 of your favorites and dig them for free. All clumps are large. You may want to join a friend, each of you select 2 and split them thus giving you 4 different daylily plants. We will have a discussion on hybridizing and growing dayliles and includes a luncheon using daylilies.

$15.00 for lunch and seminar-------lilies free.

 

July 18th 1:00 PM Come to My Tea Party

Children will smile with delight when they are invited to a Tea with the young in mind. Their special menu: strawberry scones with fresh strawberry jam, ham and cheese pinwheels, ranch chicken salad on a croissant, strawberry flower cookie, cherry flower cookie, fairy kisses, and chocolate banana bars. Whether you are a parent, grandparent, family or friend, enjoy an afternoon tea with the young one. Dress-up is optional. There will be games for the young to enjoy.

July 25th Noon A Few of My Favorite Herbal Things

This demonstration and tasting event will provide you with recipes for more than a dozen of my favorite herb things, herb seasonings, vinegars, cranberry wine, victorian shrub, dried herb mixes, herbal room sprays, and more. Recipes provided. Luncheon will be prepared, using my favorites.

Aug. 1st Noon Vegetarian High Tea Using the Summer Harvest

See how delicious a vegetarian meal can be. The discussion will be on organic and heirloom vegetables. You will sample the remarkable flavor and benefits of vegetables you can grow yourself.

The menu will be, tomato basil baguette, plum bread, green garden salad with edible flowers, cashew paella, mushroom tart, tortellini with mushroom sauce, skillet vegetables with smoked tomato coulis, berry fool, strawberry shortcake citrus mint cooler and raspberry tea.
